Tajweed is the set of rules used to recite the Quran properly. It is important for every Muslim, be it male or female, to study and learn the Quran.

Tajweed is important to learn because Arabic, the language of the Quran, is very delicate. If any word or symbol is pronounced incorrectly, it changes the meaning of the word.

There is no age limit set by Allah SWT for muslims to acquire knowledge. Therefore, adults can learn the rules of the Quran at any age and time.

Importance of learning Tajweed for adults:

⦁ Learning it helps to recite Quran Properly
Quran is the book of Allah Almighty, which has certain rules and regulations for recitation. In order to read the Quran correctly, it is important for muslims to learn and practice tajweed. It can be difficult therefore it requires consistent effort and practice.

Start from learning the basics like the makhrij and the vowels and then towards the other rules of tajweed. This will help adults to understand the rules of the Holy Quran and apply them.

Practising the Makharij and reciting again and again can make them fluent in reciting the Quran and can make their Qirat better.

⦁ It can be learnt easily from homes

As most grown ups are occupied and have a busy schedule, it can become difficult for them to leave the house sometimes to take tajweed classes. They might also face issues in transportation.

But now, with the growing technology and the easy access of Internet, learning about any topic has become very easy, just a click away.
Similarly, learning Makharij has also become easier. People can easily access any Arab Qaari to improve their Tajweed.

Now Muslims  can easily learn the pronunciations of the Quran from the comfort of their homes. They can listen to the recitation of the Quran while doing their chores or they can spare an hour from house work to memorise and note down the rules. If you are not able to learn tajweed at homes then must take tajweed classes for adults for professional tajweed tutors.

⦁ It is the order of Allah SWT

Allah Ta’ala has commanded his slaves, irrespective of gender and age, to gain knowledge of this world and the Deen too.

The knowledge of Quran is the most important thing to learn. It includes tajweed, taatil and the meanings of the verses of the Quran. This helps us to understand the essence of the Quran i.e what the Quran is actually meant for ; to teach the humans about morals and values.

Our beloved Prophet also emphasised on gaining knowledge, as it has a lot of reward.

The Prophet PBUH said: “Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi)

”Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim,”(Sunan of Ibn Majah)

⦁ Adults should learn tajweed so that they can teach their kids

The initial socialization of the kids is done at home through family this means that kid learn about the world by observing their family. As children are more close to their family, they learn and observe things from them.

It is important for every Muslim to learn tajweed, so that they can teach it to their kids from an early age before going to school. This will create a learning environment at home and make the pre-schoolers familiar with the Quran and its accent.

So it is the responsibility of adults to learn proper tajweed, so that they can pass on to their generations. Or if the kids have any difficulty in reciting or memorising, their guardians can guide them at home.

⦁ It will make their Salah better

Salah  is one of the important pillars of Islam, and recitation of the Quran is an important factor in it. Salah is like talking to Allah Almighty, so Muslims should make sure that they recite the Quran nicely according to the rules of the Quran, so that their Salah is accepted and rewarded.

Reciting the Quran with Tajweed in Salah has more reward than reciting the Quran without it. When we recite the Quran daily, we are expected to recite it properly with the set rules and Makharij.

⦁ Reciting Quran with Tajweed gives more reward

As narrated by Prophet Muhammad SAW:
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Reciting the Quran with the best pronunciations, while reciting it generally and in Salah gives more blessings.

Therefore, the Muslims should keep making an effort to learn the Quran with the best pronunciations.
