Therefore you need to know about cleaning methods. Remember, the carpet is a considerable investment. Buying a rug takes a lot of money, time, and effort.

However, rugs cleaning is a DIY project. Unless and until you are not well aware, you don’t need any professional service. For instance, Persian and oriental rugs are not easy to clean at home. So you need some help from a nearby cleaning shop.

Before moving towards the post, remember that you will not receive any official notice to clean the rug as soon as you find the carpet dirty clean. Of course, there are some handy steps. So let’s plunge into the post.

1- Collect materials and tools

Just like any other cleaning process, you need some types of equipment for area rugs too.

So these are the tools you need the most

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Rug liquid or shampoo
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Buckets
  • Sponge
  • Garden hose
  • Glove
  • Squee gee
  • Water
  • Soft brush
  • Wet vacuum

2- Use a vacuum to clear dirt and debris.

The first and foremost thing is to remove dirt. For this reason, use a vacuum and remove dirt on both sides. Most people do it for one side. But this is not a good idea. There is more dirt on the backside. Therefore carefully remove it. Moreover, vacuum the rug until you are sure that the last bit of dirt is no more. In the case of pets, use some soft brushes to remove the hair.

3- Mix the rug cleaner

No question at all, you cannot use any cleaner for cleaning oriental weavers rugs. Of course, you need some specific rug cleaners. For instance, you can use rug shampoo. Use a good brand. Never apply cheap solutions. Follow the instructions and then apply them.

On the other hand, you can also use some dish wash soap. Mix the detergent in hot water and clean the rug. However, never use the water that is too hot. Else it will damage the rug.

4- Test the rug cleaner

After you have prepared the cleaning solution, now it time to test it. You can follow the two methods.

  • For a test, follow the steps that are on the bottle. You can get Bissel or anyone. But make sure its quality is good.
  • If you are not using a cleaner, you can use a dishwashing liquid. For this reason, add some liquid soap in warm water and prepare a solution. However, never use hot water. Because it can damage the color and fibers.

Now apply the solution to the area rug. Never use it in the front zone. Instead, apply it on a hidden side. Such as on the corners. Never clean the rug in a hurry. Only do it when you are free.

5- Allow the cleaner to settle.

After you have applied the liquid, now wait for few minutes. However, you can use a sponge or brush as well. Make sure that solution is deep inside the rug. Before rinsing, allow the cleaner to stay on the carpet. It can be from 10 – 25 minutes.

6- Check the colors

Most often, people are not good at cleaning the rugs. So, before you apply any scrubber, check the colors. If your colors are running, immediately rinse the rug. This is a color test method. Eventually, it will help in better rug cleaning.

7- Wash the area rug

Now wash the area rug. You can use a sponge or soft brush before the final wash. Allow the cleaner to sit on the area rug. Rinse well. But make sure to settle the cleaner at least for 5 minutes. First, however, make sure to wash the rug thoroughly.

8- Rinse the area rug

For rinsing the area rug, you can clean the garden hose or bucket. First, make sure all the solution is removed. Then, rinse, rinse and rinse. Please don’t stop it until and unless the water is crystal clear. As you find the water clear, now it’s a sign that the rug is clean. For quality contemporary rugs, you can visit this store.

9- Remove Excess Water

You’ll want to get rid of as much excess water as possible in the rug at this point so it can dry faster. You can use a wet-dry vacuum or a squeegee in the direction of the nap if you have one. This is an ideal tool. However, it is basically for windows cleaning.

10- Let the area rug dry.

After all these steps, now it’s time to dry the rug. It can take hours to days. For this reason, allow the rug to stay flat on the surface. Allow one side to dry completely first. After this, let the opposite sides. Never place the area rug in direct sunlight. Because it can fade the color, instead of sunlight, put it in the air.

Probably, there are no more houses that do not own any area rug. You can find it in almost all places. So eventually, it is a common issue for all. Indeed everyone needs to know about rug cleaning. Therefore, it’s better to read the guide. If you are doing experiments on your own, you can ruin the rug. For cleaning an area, you eventually need some help.
